Frequently asked questions

Why does 1 + 2 × 3 give 9 in portrait but 7 in landscape?

Portrait is the basic calculator and works strictly left to right (as most pocket calculators do). Landscape is the scientific calculator and follows the usual order of operations, so multiplication happens before addition. Use the parentheses keys in landscape if you want to control the order yourself.

How do I see or clear my history?

Tap the clock button above the display. Tap an entry to load its result into the calculator, or press and hold it to copy the result. Tap Clear to delete the whole history. History is stored only on your iPad.

How do I convert units?

Tap the arrows button above the display. The converter starts from the number on the display. Choose a category and the two units, then tap Use result to send the converted number back to the calculator. Currencies are not supported because they need live exchange rates.

What do 2nd, Rad/Deg and EE do?

2nd switches keys to their alternate functions (for example sin becomes sin-1). Rad/Deg switches trigonometry between radians and degrees; the key shows the mode you will switch to, and “Rad” appears next to the history button while radians are active. EE lets you type a number in scientific notation, for example 2 EE 3 = 2,000.

How do I delete a typed digit, or copy and paste a number?

Swipe left or right on the number to delete the last digit. Press and hold the number to copy it, or paste a number from elsewhere.

Why does the decimal key show a comma?

TeraCal follows your region setting (Settings → General → Language & Region). Regions that write decimals with a comma show a comma.

Which iPads are supported?

TeraCal is made for iPad and requires iPadOS 16 or later. It works in portrait and landscape, and adapts to Split View and Stage Manager windows.

Does TeraCal need an internet connection?

No. It works fully offline and never connects to the internet.
